 Pastors at CUMC

LEAD PASTOR:  Rev. Charles Reynolds
The Reverend Charles Reynolds was born and raised in New York City, but – by the Grace of God - has been a Virginian since 1989. Following his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1992, he enrolled in Duke Divinity School, graduating in 1995 with a Master of Divinity degree.  Ordained a Deacon in 1994, and an Elder in 1997, Pastor Reynolds has served First (Broadway), Providence (New Kent), and Verona. In 2008, Bishop Charlene Kammerer appointed him to serve as an Extension Minister, with the task of establishing a new wellness ministry. From 2008-2015 Reverend Reynolds served as Executive Director of Virginia Conference Wellness Ministries, Ltd. Following his request to return to parish ministry, Bishop Cho has appointed him to serve Calvary UMC effective July 1, 2015.
Charlie’s wife, Mindy, was born and raised in New Jersey – but has lived in North Carolina and Virginia since 1984. She is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and a consecrated Diaconal Minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), currently serving on the staff of Bishop James Mauney in the Virginia Synod.
The Reynolds’ family includes two adult children – a daughter, Kelly, resides in North Carolina. A son, Charles, and his wife Nikki reside in Leesburg, Virginia with their two children, Charles Kenneth (“C.K.”) and his younger brother, Kian.  Charlie and Mindy also serve as human “parents” for Charlotte, a six year old mixed breed rescue dog whom they adopted in November 2009 at the age of six months. They reside in Fishersville, and enjoy traveling, visiting with their many family and friends, spending time with their two incredible grandchildren, and rooting for their beloved New York Yankees and Duke Blue Devils.
ASSOCIATE PASTOR:  Rev. Nancy Vaughan
Appointed to Calvary UMC in June of 2014, Pastor Nancy is one of six children who grew up attending church regularly and enjoying family sing-alongs in Knoxville, TN. She holds degrees from Carson-Newman University (B.S.), Virginia Tech (M.S.), and Duke Divinity School (MDiv). While attending Seminary at Duke, Nancy served in the Western North Carolina Conference as lead pastor of a two-point charge, Bethel and Julian.  She was active in the Divinity Praise Team, Broadway Review, Student Pastor Association, Student Guides, and the improv players, Axe of the Apostles, while at Duke Divinity School.
Married for 30 years to Eddie Vaughan, a life-long farmer in VA Beach who died of PSP in 2009, they raised four daughters together, along with two children from his previous marriage, Melinda, Mark, Rebekah, Kellye, Whitney, and Amy. There are 9 precious and much-loved grandchildren, who bring great joy to our pastor. The family is still active in their home church, Charity UMC, in the Elizabeth River District.  Nancy served as worship leader, pianist, Sunday School teacher, Lay Servant, SPR committee, Parsonage Committee, Worship Committee, and on other committees. She led the church in dramatic and musical productions and taught Sunday School and Disciple Bible Study. She has been active in the Walk to Emmaus, serving as Lay Director of Tidewater Community and Chrysalis, as well as the weekend director for Emmaus and Chrysalis.
Life on the farm included raising corn, wheat, soybeans, vegetables, strawberries, various 4-H animals, as well as hogs and cattle.  Their family was active in Farm Bureau and 4-H, and Nancy served on the Inland Waterways Board as appointed by the Governor of VA. She has operated her own fabric store, taught as an adjunct professor at Tidewater Community College, served as Dept. Chair of Work & Family Studies at Ocean Lakes High School in Va. Beach, and was a licensed Realtor in Virginia and a Broker in NC for ten years.
Nancy loves her family, music, refinishing antiques, sewing, reading, movies, and serving the Lord.
